Coffee Maker Accessories - Getting More Out of Your Coffee Pot

Finding the top coffee maker accessories can be a bit of a challenge. While many coffee makers will have features and options built into them, there are always a host of things you can get to make your coffee even better. Even if you are not a coffee connoisseur, getting the right coffee maker accessories can make your coffee experience a much more pleasurable one. For me there really are three things that every decent coffee pot needs.

The first, and most important coffee maker accessory, is a decent coffee grinder. Pre-ground, canned coffee does not have nearly have the flavor as a good freshly ground pot has. By grinding the bean just before placing it in the pot to get brewed you will capture and retain all of the natural flavor of the coffee bean. If you have never tried fresh ground coffee you have no idea what you are missing.

The other accessory that I like to have is a high quality water filter. Some people will use bottled water for their coffee, but I find that to be a bit overkill. A good water filter will take out all the harsh metals and chemicals from tap water. I drink a lot of coffee, and using the best possible water not only makes it taste better but keeps me healthier as well. The water filter also has other uses that goes beyond just your coffee. I use it for drink mixes for the kids as well as simply just ice water.

Lastly is the filter you use. Here I have found that the actual filter really does not make a huge difference. I will usually go about and buy whatever is cheapest and get it in bulk. The most important thing is to make sure that it is the recommended size for your coffee pot. Putting in the wrong kind of filter is the quickest way to ruin a good pot of coffee and possibly even the coffee pot itself. You can also buy reusable filters. I have found these to be more of a pain than they are worth, but if you are Eco conscious and do not like the idea of paper filters they are a good option.

All of these products are just accessories and add ons to your coffee machine. If you do not purchase a high quality machine you will end up regretting it down the road. While the cheaper ones can make a decent tasting cup of coffee, the problem is that in general they do not last. A high quality name brand coffee pot should last you many years.
